A Simple Path to Your Steel Building
A clear, client-friendly walk-through of what to expect from first hello to final punch list.
- step by step breakdown
Building with Steel Craft means clarity, confidence, and a step-by-step partnership from day one. Here’s how we bring your custom metal building to life.
Initial Estimate & Project Kickoff
Step 1:
We start every project by getting to know exactly what you’re aiming to build. If you already have architectural plans, perfect—share them with us so we can design and price based on accurate details. If you don’t have plans yet, no worries. You can use our online 3D Designer to sketch out your building concept.
Once we have your layout, footprint, and intended use, we begin developing the initial estimate.
What the client can expect:
- Guidance on submitting plans or using our 3D tool
- Early discussions about size, design features, and project goals
- Transparency about next steps and timelines

Layout Confirmation & Steel Package Pricing
Step 2:
After the layout is finalized, our team prices your steel package using the proper design criteria for your project location. We design for wind, snow, and structural load requirements based on published data for the area.
Important Note: Steel Craft Builders does not assume responsibility for researching local codes—the client or their architect must confirm jurisdictional requirements.
What the client can expect:
- Confirmation of the proposed building layout
- Pricing tailored to regional design criteria
- Clear communication on what information we need from the client or their architect
Full Package Pricing (Insulation, Doors, Curbs & Labor)
Step 3:
Once the steel structure is priced, we compile all additional components:
- Insulation packages
- Man doors and roll-up doors
- Curb systems specific to the building’s mechanical layout
- Labor for full erection
This entire estimate phase typically takes 7–10 days, depending on complexity.
What the client can expect:
- A complete, itemized pricing package
- Thorough review of options and upgrades
- Realistic timelines based on project size
3D Model Review & Pricing Presentation
Step 4:
We generate a 3D rendering of your building along with full pricing for all components. This is where your project starts to take visual shape.
We encourage a review meeting so we can walk through design, pricing, and any concerns. If your architect is involved, this is their moment to ensure all dimensions and design elements align with the overall plan.
What the client can expect:
- A detailed 3D building model
- A guided review session with your assigned salesperson
- Architect coordination and dimension verification
Revisions, Final Pricing & Timeline Setup
Step 5:
If changes or adjustments are needed, we update the design and revise the pricing accordingly. Once everything is approved, we establish the timeline for your stamped and sealed engineered drawings, which typically take 4–5 weeks.
What the client can expect:
- Fast turnaround on revisions
- Clear timeline for stamped/sealed drawings
- Communication from both your salesperson and estimator
Final Plan Review
Step 6:
When the stamped and sealed drawings are complete, we provide them for one more accuracy check. This ensures the project is ready to move forward without surprises.
What the client can expect:
- A full set of engineered plans
- A review session with SCB, the owner, and the architect
- Corrections made before production release if needed
Release to Production
Step 7:
Once approved, we release the building to the factory for fabrication. Typical production time ranges from 14–18 weeks, depending on current lead times.
At this stage, we require final color selections for:
- All metal panels
- Trim components
- Roll-up and man doors
- Insulation facings
What the client can expect:
- A confirmed production window
- Final material selections
- Ongoing communication from your project manager
Erection Drawings & Pre-Delivery Review
Step 8:
About 30 days before your building ships, we receive the erection drawings. We conduct another review with owners and architects to reconfirm accuracy and catch any final adjustments.
What the client can expect:
- Detailed erection drawings
- Final confirmation meeting
- Delivery date coordination
Delivery Coordination & Site Readiness
Step 9:
Once delivery dates are set, we work with you to ensure the site is fully prepared. Proper prep helps avoid delays and sets the stage for a smooth erection process.
What the client can expect:
- Clear delivery timelines
- Guidance on site readiness (pads, staging, access, etc.)
- Communication with your project manager and superintendent
Erection Phase & On-Site Management
Step 10:
When the building is ready to go up, we assign a superintendent to your project. They ensure all materials are installed properly, safely, and according to the plans.
What the client can expect:
- A dedicated superintendent overseeing construction
- Quality checks throughout the erection process
- Regular progress updates
Final Punch List & Project Closeout
Step 11:
As the project wraps up, we walk through the building with you to identify any final items that need adjustment or attention.
What the client can expect:
- A full project walk-through
- Completion of the punch list
- A smooth and satisfying handoff of the finished structure
